Fresh in working life, need a car for commute in KL. Torn between Perodua Myvi and Axia. Gaji RM3500, want low instalment but also dont want regret. Which one better value and how much monthly is safe for my income?

On RM3500, keep your car instalment under 15% ideally, so max around RM500-550/month including you must also budget petrol, toll, insurance, parking, maintenance (total running cost easily RM800-1000/month!). Axia is cheaper, lower instalment (~RM400+), more fuel efficient, perfect for solo commute and easy to park - great first car if budget tight. Myvi bigger, more powerful, more comfortable for long drives and highway, better resale value, but higher instalment. My honest advice: if mostly city commute alone, Axia is the smart money move, you save the difference. If you often carry family, drive highway balik kampung, or want more oomph, Myvi worth the extra. Both super reliable and cheap to service. Dont overstretch just for the badge lah.
Consider if LRT/MRT can cover most of your commute, then get cheaper car for weekends only. I stay near an LRT and use Axia mainly weekends, save so much on petrol and toll and no need to fight KL jam daily. Think about your actual route first.
Myvi resale much stronger, thats the hidden value. When you sell in 5 years the Myvi holds price better. But Axia super jimat petrol, my colleague fill up once every 2 weeks only. For pure economy Axia menang, for all-rounder Myvi. Both cannot go wrong for first car honestly.

Dont forget insurance and roadtax first year, plus the downpayment 10%. On RM3500 make sure you got emergency fund also, dont go zero savings just to own car. Buy new for warranty and peace of mind, both cheap enough. I regret buying second hand my first car, kena repair banyak.
