How to check if I qualify for Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah / STR and when does the payment come into my bank?
My parents keep asking me to help them check their government cash aid, and I myself am not sure if I qualify since I just started working. How do I actually check eligibility for the STR cash aid, what income bracket qualifies, and how do I know when the payment drops into the bank account? Also can I still apply if I missed the earlier window?

For the payment timing, the government announces each phase in the news and on the portal, usually spread across a few instalments through the year. Once your phase is active and you're eligible, the money hits the bank within the announced dates automatically if your account is registered. If it doesn't come, there's a channel to report and update your bank info. Keep the bank account active and not dormant.

If you just started working and your income is still low, you might still qualify as a single individual under the lower bracket, so do check, don't assume you earn too much. The single-person aid is smaller than household aid but still something. Your parents as a retired household likely qualify for a decent amount. Check each IC separately since the category differs.

If you missed the registration, don't panic, the government usually opens an appeal or update window (kemaskini/rayuan) for each phase where new applicants and those with changed circumstances can submit. Prepare income documents and family details to support the application. Just monitor the official portal and news for when the appeal window opens. My uncle got in through the rayuan round after missing the first one.

Important warning, there are tons of STR scam messages going around with fake links asking for your bank details or a 'processing fee'. The real STR never asks you to pay anything or click random links to claim. Always go directly to the official hasil.gov.my domain. Remind your parents especially, aunties and uncles kena scammed by these fake aid messages all the time.

Easiest way is the official semakan portal, just key in the IC number and it tells you everything, eligible or not, how much, and which phase. Do it for your parents too with their ICs. Bookmark the site and check around each announced payment phase. Don't fall for the scam links on WhatsApp, only use the official government URL.

Checking STR (Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah) eligibility is straightforward and all done through the official LHDN-linked portal, so let me walk you through it. Go to the official STR website (bantuantunai.hasil.gov.my) and use the semakan (check status) function with your MyKad number, it'll show your eligibility, the category you fall under, the amount, and the payment method. Eligibility is based on household income and category: single individuals, households, and senior citizens have different brackets, and generally it targets the B40 and lower M40 groups, with households earning below a certain threshold qualifying for larger amounts. Payments are usually released in phases across the year (often several instalments), and if you're eligible with bank details registered, it goes straight into your account, otherwise you collect via cash at appointed banks. For your parents, the key is making sure their bank account details are updated in the system and their income info is current; if you missed the application or appeal window, watch for the rayuan (appeal) period which the government usually opens for each phase, and apply then with supporting documents.
