Switching career at 30+ in Malaysia, boleh or not?

I'm 32, been doing admin for 8 years and gaji stuck already. Thinking of jumping to tech or data field. Realistic ah or too late for me?

I switched from admin to QA testing at 33, so boleh lah. What I did: took a part time course malam malam, buat small projects for portfolio. First tech job actually paid LESS than my admin (RM3.2k) because I was junior, but after 2 years I jumped to RM6k. The hardest part is ego, you sit with 24 year olds and you the oldest one. But your admin experience like handling stakeholders and messy people, that one damn valuable, don't underestimate. My advice: don't quit first, learn on the side and only apply when portfolio ready. Age is not the issue, the willingness to start from bawah again is.

Honestly it depends on your family commitment. If you single, hantam terus. But if got wife, kids and housing loan, the pay cut period very stress one. I tried at 35 with 2 anak, nearly gave up because monthly cash flow so tight. Doable but plan your emergency fund minimum 6 months first before you jump.

32 not old lah aiyo. My cousin changed career at 40 to become property agent and now he earns more than his old engineer days. Malaysia market still got opportunity if you rajin and thick skin sikit. Fix the mindset first, the skill can catch up.

Data field quite saturated now lah, too many bootcamp people fighting for junior slots. Maybe go for something with less competition like cloud or devops. AWS certs cheaper and faster than a full career switch. Don't just follow the hype because everyone say data science glamour.
