Fresh grad, offered RM2800 for accounting job. Can nego or not?

Just graduated from a local uni, got offer from a mid-size firm in PJ. Gaji RM2800 basic. My coursemate got RM3200 at Big 4. Should I ask for more or just accept, scared they withdraw offer.

Nego always can, worst case they say no, they wont withdraw for asking politely lah. When I got my first offer I emailed back: "Thank you for the offer, I am very keen. Based on my internship experience and current market rate for the role, would there be flexibility to consider RM3200?" They came back with RM3000. Free RM200/month just for one email! Big 4 pay more but the hours brutal, so RM2800 at a smaller firm with better work life balance might actually be worth more. Compare total package - got EPF, bonus, medical, claims ah?

Also ask when is the confirmation and first increment. Some firms increase after 6 months probation. RM2800 now but RM3200 after confirm is not bad mah. Ask HR straight.

Dont anyhow quote your coursemate punya gaji when nego, sounds childish. Quote market rate instead - check JobStreet salary guide or Glassdoor. That one more professional and got data backing.

For first job, honestly the experience and what you learn more important than RM400. I started RM2600, but after 2 years jumped to RM4500 elsewhere because got solid experience. Dont over-focus on starting gaji. But yes, ask nicely, no harm one.
