I met with a small accident on my motorbike while riding to office, injured my leg, medical bill and mc few days. Someone say SOCSO can cover commuting accident. Is it true? How to claim and what documents needed?

Yes, true, this is exactly what SOCSO (PERKESO) covers under the Employment Injury Scheme, and it INCLUDES commuting accidents (going from home to work and back, along the normal route). I claimed after a similar bike accident. Steps: 1) Get proper medical treatment and keep ALL receipts, the medical report, and your MC. 2) Lodge a police report about the accident as soon as possible, this is important evidence for a commuting claim. 3) Inform your employer, they usually help submit the SOCSO notification (Form 34 / accident report) because they contribute on your behalf. 4) Submit the claim to PERKESO with: police report, medical reports and receipts, your IC, the accident details and route proof. What you can get: medical expense reimbursement, temporary disablement benefit (a daily payment for the days you were on MC and could not work), and if there is any lasting disability, permanent disablement benefit. The commuting part specifically requires it to be on your usual route without major deviation, so if you detoured somewhere personal it may not count. Do it promptly, dont delay the police report. It is your right, you contributed to SOCSO for exactly this.

The POLICE REPORT is the make-or-break document for commuting accident claims, dont skip it thinking it is a minor injury. I almost did not lodge one for a small fall and later struggled to prove the commuting claim. Make the report the same day if possible, stating time, location, and that you were on your way to/from work on your normal route. Without it PERKESO can reject the commuting angle.
Tell your HR immediately, they handle the employer-side submission and have done it before. Most Malaysian HR know the SOCSO process. Also note you can seek treatment and the temporary disablement benefit compensates you for income lost during your MC days, so keep an accurate record of the days you could not work. Keep photocopies of everything you submit, dont hand over your only originals.

Even if the injury feels minor now, claim and keep documentation, because some injuries (especially leg, back) can have complications later, and having the SOCSO case opened protects you if it worsens. I underestimated a knee injury once and regretted not documenting it properly for follow up treatment. Better to file and have the record than wish you had.
