Yes you can pay in lieu of notice, this is very standard in Malaysia. Check your contract, usually it says either party can pay salary in lieu for the shortened period. So if you cut 1 month, you pay 1 month gaji (or your new company pays for you, ask them to buyout). I did this before, negotiated with HR, offered to pay 3 weeks salary and clear my leave balance to offset. They agreed. Put everything in email so got black and white. About bad reference, in Malaysia most companies only confirm dates and position anyway, cannot simply badmouth you.

Ask your NEW company to cover the buyout or delay your start date. A good company that really wants you will be flexible about start date. If they refuse to move even one week and force you to burn a bridge, that is a small red flag about how they treat staff.

Use your annual leave to offset lah. If you got 15 days leave left, that is 3 weeks already. Apply leave for the last part of notice period, then you effectively leave earlier while still technically employed. Most HR allow this. Just dont abuse until they ask you to encash instead.

Talk to your boss nicely first before jump to pay in lieu. My manager actually released me early with no penalty because I finished handover properly and helped train the replacement. If you leave on good terms and dont leave them in the lurch, many bosses will let you go. Being kurang ajar about it is what makes them hold you to the full 2 months out of spite.
