Boss give counter offer after I resign, should I stay?

Got a new job with plus 40 percent gaji. My current boss suddenly wants to match it. Is this a trap or should I take the counter and stay?

Take the new job, don't stay. Classic mistake. Think about it: your boss only values you enough to pay properly AFTER you threatened to leave, not before. That resentment cuts both ways, and now you're marked as a flight risk. In most counter offer stories I've seen in Malaysia, the person still leaves within a year anyway, either they get sidelined or the same problems that made them want to go never got fixed. The money was never the only reason you applied out, right? Unless the counter also solves the actual reason you wanted to leave (bad manager, no growth, toxic culture), the extra ringgit will not keep you happy. Go.

Whatever you decide, don't burn the bridge with the new company by accepting then backing out last minute. Malaysia industry damn small, everybody knows everybody, HR people all in the same WhatsApp groups. Your reputation follows you.

I accepted a counter offer once, biggest regret. For the next 8 months my boss slowly cut me out of important projects because he no longer trusted my loyalty. By the time I wanted to leave again, my market value dropped because I stayed too long. Just go.

Not always a trap lah, depends. If you genuinely like the place and the only issue was pay, and the new company is unknown risk, staying can make sense. But get the counter in writing with a review date. Verbal promise from boss in Malaysia SME, hmm, careful.
