Proton X50 vs Honda City for a first family car, worth the price difference?

First-time car buyer, just got married and planning for a baby soon. Torn between a Proton X50 (SUV, more space, local) and a Honda City (sedan, cheaper to maintain, better resale). Budget is tight with the housing loan too. For a young family in KL, which makes more sense?

We went with the Honda City for our first family car and no regrets. The reasoning was purely money: with a new housing loan, we wanted the lower running cost, better fuel economy, and strong resale in case our needs change. A baby fits fine in a sedan honestly, the City boot swallows a stroller easily. SUVs are trendy but you pay more for petrol and the higher price. The one downside is the lower ride height when loading a baby, my back complains a bit. If space is your top priority go SUV, but if it's total cost of ownership and resale, the City is the sensible choice. Test drive both with your child seat if you can.

I bought an X50 for my family 2 years ago and overall happy, but let me be real about the trade-offs. The SUV height and boot space is great for the stroller and balik kampung barang. The infotainment and features at that price are unbeatable. BUT resale value on Protons is lower than Honda, and some friends had niggling electronic issues. Service is cheap and centres are everywhere though. If you balik kampung a lot and want space now, X50. The Honda City holds value better and is bulletproof reliable, so if you might sell in a few years, City wins. For a growing family that keeps the car long term, I don't regret the X50.
