SOCSO / PERKESO

Employment

SOCSO (Social Security Organisation, or PERKESO in Malay) provides social protection to employees against workplace injuries, occupational diseases, and invalidity. Employers must register eligible workers and pay monthly contributions under the Employment Injury Scheme and Invalidity Scheme. If an employee is injured at work, on the way to work, or becomes permanently disabled, SOCSO may pay medical costs, temporary or permanent disablement benefits, and dependants' benefits. It also runs return-to-work and rehabilitation programmes. Coverage now extends to most employees regardless of salary. Contribution rates and benefit amounts are subject to the latest rules.
