Overtime (OT)
Employment
Overtime, commonly called OT, is work done beyond normal working hours. Under the Employment Act, eligible employees are entitled to extra pay at higher rates, for example one-and-a-half times the hourly rate on normal days, and higher multipliers on rest days and public holidays. Overtime rules mainly protect employees earning within a specified wage ceiling, though many employers extend similar practice. There are also limits on the maximum overtime hours allowed. Managerial staff are often paid a fixed salary without separate OT. The exact rates, eligibility, and hour limits are set by law and subject to the latest rules.
