Want to adopt a cat but condo says no pets, how?

I rent a condo and the management says no pets. But so many people keep them quietly. What's the actual risk if I adopt one?

Two separate permissions matter here: your LANDLORD and the condo MANAGEMENT (house rules). Even if management technically bans pets in the by-laws, enforcement varies hugely, many just act on complaints. The real risks: neighbours complain (smell, noise, allergy), management issues warning/fine, or worst case landlord uses it to keep your deposit or evict. Since it's an animal's life, don't do it half-heartedly. My honest advice: first get your landlord's written okay (some don't mind indoor cats, add a small extra deposit to sweeten it). Then keep the cat strictly indoor, litter clean, no smell, no roaming corridors, be a model pet owner so no one has reason to complain. Most quiet indoor cat owners never get caught. But go in knowing that if management cracks down, you MUST have a plan (rehome is traumatic for the cat), so only adopt if you can commit even if you have to move house. Adopt responsibly, an animal is not something to gamble with.

I kept a cat quietly in a "no pets" condo for 3 years, indoor only, never a problem because I made sure zero smell and never let it out. The people who kena caught are usually the ones whose cat roams the corridor or whose unit smells. Be discreet and clean and you likely fine, but yes it's a risk.

Honestly, if you renting and it's not your place with pet-unfriendly rules, maybe wait until you move somewhere pet-friendly or get your own place. Adopting then having to give up the cat because management complain is heartbreaking for the cat. Do it when your situation is stable lah.

Check the tenancy agreement clause on pets specifically, some say no pets and if you breach, landlord can forfeit deposit. Talk to landlord openly, some are chill especially if you offer to pay for any cleaning at move-out. Get it in writing so no dispute later.
