Buy a new Myvi or a second-hand Honda City with the same monthly?
Budget wise, a new Myvi and a used Honda City (2018) end up around the same monthly installment. First car, mainly for commuting KL and occasional balik kampung. Which is the smarter buy for a fresh working adult?

I bought a used sedan as my first car and regretted the surprise repair bills, aircond, suspension, small things that added up. For a first car and peace of mind, new Myvi wins on total cost of ownership, warranty and cheap servicing at any Perodua. The City is genuinely more comfortable and feels more 'grown up', great for long drives, but a 2018 unit means you should budget for a timing check, tyres and possibly battery soon. If you go for the City, spend RM100-200 on an independent inspection before buying, non-negotiable. Also factor insurance, the City costs more to insure. For your commuting-mostly use case, the Myvi is the sensible money choice.

From my experience as a first-car buyer, the Myvi is hard to beat for value. New means full warranty, cheap and everywhere-available parts, super fuel efficient, low road tax, and it holds resale value like nothing else in Malaysia. A 2018 City is a nicer drive and more comfortable for highway balik kampung, but used means you inherit someone else's wear, possible surprise repairs, and higher maintenance and petrol. For a fresh working adult who wants low stress and low running cost, I'd go new Myvi. If you often do long highway trips with family, the City's comfort might justify it, but budget extra for maintenance. Whatever you pick, get a used car properly inspected first.
