Quit Rent & Assessment

Housing

Quit rent (cukai tanah) and assessment (cukai pintu) are two recurring taxes property owners pay. Quit rent is a land tax paid yearly to the state land office based on the land area or category. Assessment is a local council tax on the property's estimated annual rental value, used to fund municipal services like rubbish collection, street lighting, and drains; it is usually billed twice a year. Strata owners may pay a parcel rent to the state instead of traditional quit rent. Late payment can attract penalties. Rates and billing methods vary by state and are subject to the latest rules.
