MOT (Memorandum of Transfer)
Housing
The Memorandum of Transfer is the legal document that transfers ownership of a property with an individual or strata title from the seller to the buyer, registered at the land office. It is signed as part of completing a property purchase and attracts stamp duty calculated on the property's value or price. For projects without individual titles yet, transfer is handled through a deed of assignment instead. Lawyers usually prepare and lodge the MOT so the buyer's name appears on the title. Stamp duty rates and procedures depend on the property and are subject to the latest rules.
