Congrats. Budget really depends on scale, guest count and expectations, but let me give ranges from what I saw. A modest but nice wedding these days often lands RM20k-50k, a bigger hall/hotel affair easily RM60k-100k+. The biggest cost drivers: (1) Venue and catering, this is usually the largest chunk, hotel and dewan packages vs a simple kenduri at home/community hall differ massively, per-head catering adds up fast so guest list is your main lever. (2) Photography and videography, easy to overspend chasing fancy packages. (3) Attire, some blow thousands on multiple baju/gown rentals. (4) Hantaran and door gifts. Where people overspend: inviting too many people out of obligation, and adding 'extras' emotionally on the day. What saved us: firm guest list, one venue not multiple events, borrow/rent instead of buy, and prioritise what matters to you two (for us food and photos) and cut the rest. Set a hard number with both families early, and don't take a loan for one day. Marriage is the long game, not the party.
