Matrikulasi vs STPM
Education
Matrikulasi and STPM are two common pre-university pathways after SPM that lead to public university entry. Matriculation is a one- or two-year programme run by the Education Ministry, generally seen as more coursework-based and completed in a college setting with places largely reserved under a quota system. STPM (Sijil Tinggi Persekolahan Malaysia) is a higher-secondary examination taken in schools, regarded as more exam-heavy and internationally recognised, roughly equivalent to A-Levels. Both produce a CGPA used for university placement through the central UPU system. Intake quotas and recognition details are subject to the latest rules.
